The global community must ensure the safe use of the food system without harming nature and the environment, UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Fergus Auld, said at a panel session on the second day of Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.
"Presently, the food system accounts for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. It remains the main cause of biodiversity loss and deforestation," the ambassador noted.
The diplomat emphasized that by mid-century, this system will need to provide 10 billion people worldwide with sufficient, affordable, and nutritious food.
