Every nation needs an AI development strategy, says Fariz Jafarov

Every country should have a strategy for developing artificial intelligence (AI) that outlines priority areas, according to Fariz Jafarov, the Executive Director of the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4SİM) under the Ministry of Economy.

According to Report, speaking at the event on "Artificial Intelligence: Technological Forecasting and a New Era of Governance in the Digital Economy" held as part of COP29 in Baku, Jafarov emphasized that AI cannot make decisions without human intervention. He noted that artificial intelligence can be a team member in the human decision-making process, but it does not act independently.

Currently, there are several discussions about AI, he said, adding that the government is currently observing what's going on.

He expressed belief that AI should not be controlled because then development will be limited.

"We are looking for ways to encourage startups, companies, and organizations in the country to turn to artificial intelligence," Jafarov said.

Olga Skrokhodova, a manager at Google who participated in the event, noted that it is also necessary to focus on the responsibility that arises when using artificial intelligence.

"Artificial intelligence is just beginning to be applied, while Google has existed for many years. Our company has formed and implemented principles for the use of AI. According to these principles, AI should be useful and socially oriented, and should be tested before introduction. It is checked how the company implements these principles," she said.
