Hosting World Environment Day in Azerbaijan is a large-scale initiative that UNEP welcomes, said Inger Andersen, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

According to Report, Andersen was speaking during a joint press conference with Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and President of COP29.

"On June 5, 2026, the whole world will turn its gaze to Azerbaijan, as World Environment Day will be celebrated here on that day. We are also working on issues of electromobility, providing support to the country in its climate-related work. And, of course, we are now looking with great interest at the program that will deal with early warning systems for climate weather events, as well as a large program that will deal with adaptation and financing," she said.
