Yusif Abdullayev: Azerbaijan could launch joint shipbuilding projects with St. Petersburg

Azerbaijan discussed the potential for joint shipbuilding projects with the Russian city of St. Petersburg, Yusif Abdullayev, the executive director of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), told reporters following the business forum themed on St. Petersburg and Azerbaijan expand cooperation horizons, in Baku, Report informs.

He remarked that St. Petersburg stands as Russia’s most significant region in shipbuilding: “Azerbaijan has recently paid a lot of attention to the shipbuilding. In this regard, both the exchange of experience and the joint implementation of concrete projects were discussed. We think that it is very good perspective”.

Abdullayev also observed that while trade between Azerbaijan and Russia is on the rise, the potential for growth is even more substantial when considering various domains. He cited Azerbaijan’s prominent role in the supply of fruit and vegetable products to St. Petersburg, where it consistently ranks first or second. He believes that leveraging the existing opportunities could propel Azerbaijan to a consistent first-place ranking across all categories. Furthermore, he anticipates that new infrastructural developments in St. Petersburg will pave the way for additional prospects. He also advocated for the expansion of industrial cooperation.

The business forum was well-attended, with about 25 companies from St. Petersburg and roughly 50 from Azerbaijan.
