Head of Azerbaijani delegation to Euronest PA responds to Armenian speaker

The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, who made a speech at the plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels today, accused Azerbaijan of allegedly carrying out ethnic cleansing in Karabakh, destroying the Armenian heritage, and used the term "Nagorno-Karabakh," Report informs.

Later, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, MP Tahir Mirkishili, said that in the current atmosphere of peace negotiations, such a speech has a destructive effect: “Everyone should support the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.”

Noting that there is not a region called "Nagorno-Karabakh" in Azerbaijan, but the Karabakh economic region, MP Mirkishili said that Azerbaijan has never carried out ethnic cleansing anywhere: “Armenians still live in Khankandi. Armenia has caused great destruction in the region and contaminated the territories with landmines.”

He called on the Armenian speaker to give up the lexicon they had used for 30 years and make a speech in support of peace.
