Slovak minister: Baku, Bratislava determine directions of possible co-op in defense industry

Azerbaijan and Slovakia have identified possible areas of cooperation in the defense industry, Minister of Defense of Slovakia, Robert Kaliňák said, Report informs with reference to Slovakian media.

"Slovakia has long been known for the high development of the defense industry. Therefore, many countries want to cooperate with Slovakia in this field," he said.

Speaking about the documents signed today in Baku on mutual cooperation in the defense, Kaliňák noted that it is too early to talk about concrete contracts:

"At present, possible directions of cooperation have been determined. These memorandums also provide an opportunity to develop our defense industry within the framework of cooperation with Azerbaijan. In some cases, it is a direct contract or direct order, and in other cases it is a transfer of technology, an export of the skills we have. There is a position of joint ventures.”

The minister emphasized that this cooperation will contribute to the economic development of Slovakia.

According to Kaliňák, as a result of mutual negotiations, it became clear that Azerbaijan is interested in creating a complete technological base for heavy industry with many years of Slovakia's experience: "This creates a place for Slovak specialists in this field."
