For Uruguay, participation in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13 in Baku is an opportunity to engage in global and regional dialogue, as well as to exchange best practices within various panel discussions and initiatives, Uruguay's Minister of Housing and Territorial Planning Tamara Paseyro, said.
Report quotes her as saying a key element of participation is the mutual enrichment of approaches in urban policy.
"Recently, during one of the panel sessions, my colleagues and I reached a unanimous conclusion about the fundamental importance of housing as an element of social policy. We are not talking simply about housing, but about its impact on the quality of life of the population," she noted.
Paseyro emphasized that access to housing is directly linked to other areas of social policy - healthcare, education, employment, care, and security.
"This is why housing is not just square meters, but a comprehensive system. And today it is important how countries design public policies aimed at developing integrated cities," the minister said.
