ADB launches consultant selection for railway modernization project

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a procedure to select consultants to provide project management services for the modernization of electrification, signaling and telecommunications systems along Azerbaijan's Bilajari-Yalama railway section, Report informs, citing the ADB.

The estimated value of the consultancy contract is $2.09 million.

The project is expected to be implemented over 54 months, with work initially scheduled to begin on February 1, 2027.

The ADB is considering providing a $350 million loan to finance the project. The project was reviewed by the bank from February 16 to 27, 2026.

The initiative is planned to be jointly financed by the ADB, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the government of Azerbaijan.

The modernization of the Bilajari-Yalama railway section is expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of railway infrastructure by upgrading key electrification, signaling and telecommunications systems.

Under its new country partnership strategy, the ADB plans to provide up to $2.5 billion in financing to Azerbaijan.
