Ancient castle discovered in Azerbaijan

Imishli. 14 August. REPORT.AZ/ Ancient castle has been discovered in Imishli region.

Aran Bureau of Report News Agency informs, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan discovered many material and cultural samples during the archeological excavations conducted in Giziltapa for the first time.

Even it was revealed that Giziltapa was a defensive and severely protected fortress. Giziltapa, consisting of two parts covers more than 5 hectares. It is possible to observe the surrounding area from the historical monument with a height of about 25 meters. One feature of this place is that the castle is completely surrounded by a water basin. At the same time, observations revealed that the castle was perpendicular to other historical monuments. In addition, the remains of the castle walls were found around the height during survey.

During the excavations at the top of the tower, historic objects of medieval times emerged. As well as, besides a millennium-old oven, material-cultural samples were revealed by the archaeologists. Many household items with colorful patterns, as well as hand-made tattoos have been found. While the first phase of the excavations shows that this place belongs to the Middle Ages, it is possible to found more ancient traces in deeper layers.
