Murad Garib oghlu Fatiyev, who was placed on an international wanted list in 2025, has been brought to Azerbaijan and taken into custody for investigation following operational and investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service (SSS), the SSS told Report.
It was established that Fatiyev, acting on instructions from radical centres directed from abroad, set up social media groups with the aim of undermining Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and inciting national hatred and hostility. Through these groups, he recruited members of small ethnic communities living both abroad and in Azerbaijan who espoused extremist ideas.
He also selected particularly radical individuals from among them, organized the collection of information about key strategic facilities in the country and issued public calls for terrorism.
Some time ago, several members of this criminal group were prosecuted and arrested for preparing an attack on a state-owned enterprise and planning to take hostages in an effort to undermine the defence capabilities and economic security of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Court proceedings have begun in the criminal case. Fatiyev has been charged under Article 214-2 (Public Calls for Terrorism), Article 283-1 (Incitement of National, Racial, Social or Religious Hatred and Hostility) and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
