In a significant blow to Vietnam's digital infrastructure, three out of the country's five active international undersea internet cables have experienced failures. This marks the second major round of disruptions in just over a year, Report informs via Reuters.
The affected cables, which connect Vietnam to the United States, Europe, and Asia, have severely impacted the nation's internet connection to the global network. Vietnam relies on a total of five undersea cables with a combined bandwidth of approximately 62 Tbps to maintain its link to the worldwide web.
The extent of the damage to the three cables, which account for a substantial portion of the country's bandwidth, remains unclear. Authorities have not provided any information regarding the timeline for repairs, leaving the nation in a state of digital uncertainty.
This is not the first time Vietnam has faced such challenges. In early 2022, all five undersea cables were damaged for several weeks, highlighting the vulnerability of the country's internet infrastructure.
