The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is actively implementing the digitalization of agriculture in Azerbaijan, the FAO Representative in Turkiye Viorel Gutu told Report.

“FAO cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Ecology and the Food Security Agency. We have national-scale projects and we have pilot projects. Regarding Azerbaijan, I would like to especially note the project on the digitalization of agriculture. This is part of our global digital villages initiative, which means the application of IT solutions at the rural level. Now it exists in many countries, and we are actively implementing it in Azerbaijan,” said Gutu, adding that FAO sees great potential in implementing this idea in Azerbaijan.

He noted that FAO is a unique platform for transferring advanced knowledge and experience between different countries.

The FAO coordinator cited Turkiye as an example, where the largest project is related to food waste processing.

“Now we are implementing the experience gained there in other countries, including Azerbaijan. For us, this is a vital topic, and we are trying to change the approach to this issue. In this regard, active work is being carried out with Azerbaijan. We do everything in stages: first, research is conducted, a strategy is developed, and then it is implemented,” Viorel Gutu said.
