Azerbaijani association: Egg production meets demand, no reason for price hike

In January-November 2023, about 2 billion eggs were produced in Azerbaijan, which fully satisfies the demand for this product in the country, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Poultry Meat & Egg Producers & Exporters Association (APEPEA) Murvat Hasanli told Report.

He said that Azerbaijan is increasing the supply of eggs to the Russian market (1.2 million eggs were supplied in December): “This will not affect the domestic market in any way, since surplus eggs are exported.”

Hasanli noted that in the first ten months of this year, Azerbaijan exported 40.984 million chicken eggs worth $2.853 million: “Of these, 26.706 million eggs worth $1.86 million were sent to the UAE, 6.462 million eggs worth $445,730 to Iraq, 7.815 million eggs worth $547,470 to Qatar.”

The head of the association said that Azerbaijan also imports small quantities of eggs: “In 2022, only 1.27 million eggs were imported into the country, and in ten months of this year - 1.5 million.”

Regarding the rise in prices on the domestic market, the head of the association noted that not only in recent days, but also in recent months, none of the egg producers included in the association has raised prices: “One box containing 360 eggs is offered to the seller at a price of 53 manats ($31.18), that is, the cost of one egg is 14.5 qepik ($0.08). This price is even 1 qepik cheaper than in the same period last year. Today, the daily production of eggs in Azerbaijan is approaching 5 million units, and the daily demand is about 3.6 million.”

He added that in the current conditions, increasing prices for eggs has no economic justification: “Therefore, we sell our products to retail chains at these prices.”
