Azerbaijan doesn’t use export potential of processed hazelnuts - FAO

While several opportunities exist for processed hazelnuts, most of Azerbaijan's hazelnuts are exported to the European Union and Russian Federation as shelled hazelnuts, according to the “Hazelnut Sector in Azerbaijan: Options for Green Energy Interventions Along the Value Chain” report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, Report informs.
“Through primary data collected during the project, it was observed that of the total production of hazelnuts in 2021 (67,630 tons), around 56% is sold to the processors directly by farmers or through intermediaries, and another 22% is sold in the domestic market, while the remaining 12% is consumed by the farmers who produce it,” the report said.
