Baku.9 April. REPORT.AZ/ Athletics legend Sergey Bubka has launched his candidacy for the Presidency of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) with a pledge to 'Take Athletics to New Heights", Report informs. 

S.Bubka, who has been a Vice president of the IAAF since 2007 and a member of its Athletes' Commission since 2001, announced his Program in a live You Tube and Google Hangouts broadcast to members of the global Athletics community today.

The Program is based on the closest possible collaboration with all National Federations as a means of building on the positive legacy of the sport and the commitment to take transformational steps to attract a new generation of participants and fans.

In his Program Bubka emphasises his belief that the IAAF President's role is to serve the sport and to ensure the Association provides the most effective, responsive and professional levels of service for its members. He outlines his vision for the future of Athletics as:

"A truly global sport which inspires passion among fans of all generations and whose stars inspire youngsters to follow in their footsteps."

"It must have an infrastructure of events, facilities and support across every continent to develop the next generation of athletes."

"A sport which offers the finest stadium and television experience and delivers massive audiences across all media platforms to attract the world's finest brands and companies as sponsors."

"We need strong, well-resourced and successful National Federations on which the IAAF is based", he added.
