Migration service chief says global strategy needed to fight illegal migration

The head of the State Migration Service (SMS), Vusal Huseynov suggested developing a global strategy to combat illegal migration.

Report informs that Huseynov made such a proposal at the plenary session of the 6th World Forum of Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.

According to him, illegal migration has a negative impact on peace, economy and social harmony.

"It also creates tension between states. It is necessary to develop a global strategy to combat illegal migration. The rights of migrants and their host countries must be taken into account. Intergovernmental and intercultural dialogue is important for migration to be legal. Social security and the reintegration of migrants are also important issues," he said.

Huseynov emphasized that Azerbaijan has experience in this matter: "We are taking all the necessary steps to ensure that migrants who want to resettle in our country come legally. Multifaceted activities are being carried out to prevent illegal migration, and regular educational work is underway."
