Greece proposes a "safe corridor" for tourism

Greece has proposed creating a "safe corridor" that will allow travel between countries, which have successfully coped with the coronavirus pandemic, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is confident that such a measure will make it possible to quickly revive tourism after the removal of border restrictions and open resorts in the summer.

Mitsotakis put forward the proposal during the video conference with seven other heads of government that had successfully managed the first wave of the pandemic in their countries. These are Austria, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Singapore, the Czech Republic, and Australia.

"Safe corridors" are hygiene standards and protocols that allow tourists to travel safely without putting themselves and residents of the countries at risk. They may relate to the rules of air travel, hotel accommodation, and sightseeing.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in China's Wuhan, the causative agent of which is a new type of coronavirus officially named COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic.
