Federal Tourism Agency recommends Russians to use cash in Turkiye

Russian tourists are not yet able to apply for a TROY card in Turkiye, so the easiest way to pay in the country at the moment is cash, Head of the Russian Federal Tourism Agency Zarina Doguzova said wrote in her Telegram channel, Report informs citing TASS.

“Indeed, this payment system, among other options, is considered as an alternative way to pay for purchases by our tourists in Turkiye. However, our tourists are not yet able to issue a TROY card. This possibility is provided only for foreigners who have been living in Turkiye for a long time. Therefore, in the current conditions, the easiest way to pay for our tourists in Turkiye so far is cash,” she wrote.

She reminded that it is possible to exchange Russian rubles for Turkish lira upon arrival in Turkiye at exchange points at the airport or in the city. She added that possible ways to resolve the issue of non-cash payment are being worked out.

The Aydinlik newspaper has recently reported that Turkiye and Russia are considering using the TROY system as an alternative to Mir on Turkish soil. Later, Turkish Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati confirmed that work was underway to create an alternative to the Russian payment system Mir.
