Azerbaijan showcases its tourism potential at COP29

Azerbaijan's sustainable tourism practices are being presented at a booth located in the Green Zone of the COP29 held in Baku, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency.

The event kicked off today and will last until November 22.

According to the agency, the 200-square-meter booth provides information about Azerbaijan's tourism potential to foreign guests and media representatives. An interactive map reflecting Azerbaijan's tourism opportunities and promotional videos about the country are also displayed.

The stand offers presentations and tastings of Azerbaijan's national cuisine, tea culture, national sweets, local wines, and the Slow food travel concept based on the principle of preserving local biodiversity. Visitors can also witness demonstrations of handicrafts such as carpet weaving, sock knitting, wool spinning, painting on ceramics, etc.

The VR (virtual reality) section allows guests to embark on live virtual tours to Azerbaijan's notable destinations, including Khinalig, Yanardagh, Ateshgah, Icherisheher, Sheki Khan Palace, and Goygol Lake.

Over the course of 10 days, various presentations will be organized for visitors, covering ecotourism products like mountain hiking and birdwatching, nature tourism potential, business event opportunities, Azerbaijan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the promotion of Azerbaijani tourism.

As part of COP29, a High-Level Meeting of Tourism Ministers will be held on November 20 to implement the Global Cooperation for Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism initiative, which has been included in the COP Presidency's Action Agenda for the first time in COP history. Panel discussions and additional events on tourism's role in climate change will also take place.

The State Tourism Agency has installed directional signs and information boards in Absheron and Altiaghaj National Parks to improve the quality of tourist services and has also placed light infrastructure to enhance tourist services in the parks.

Furthermore, 5 mobile tourism information centers have been set up at designated transport hubs in Baku to provide visitors with information about events and the country's tourism opportunities during the COP29 event.

A total of 8 tourism information centers will operate daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM (GMT+4) throughout the event.
