The Japanese government has concluded that the Tokyo Olympics will have to be canceled because of coronavirus, Report informs, citing The Times.
The aim now is to find a face-saving way of announcing the cancellation that leaves open the possibility of Tokyo playing host later.
“No one wants to be the first to say so, but the consensus is that it’s too difficult,” the source said. “I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan were scheduled for last summer but were postponed to 2021 due to a COVID-19 pandemic. A few days ago, Government spokesman Katsunobu Kato announced that Japan intends to hold the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics on schedule despite the pandemic.
