On October 1, on the International Day of Older Persons, a photo exhibition dedicated to healthy and active aging has opened in Baku, Report informs.
The exhibition was organized on the initiative of First Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population and the United Nations Population Fund.
The exhibition features works by professional photographers reflecting the active work and lifestyle of older people. Its purpose is to help change the stereotypes associated with the phenomenon of aging.
At the opening of the exhibition, Fargan Abbaszade, a representative of the Secretariat of First Vice President of Azerbaijan, stressed the importance of this project. He noted that the project includes many inclusive activities and programs aimed at promoting active and healthy lifestyles for older people.
“State support and respect for the elderly have always been at a high level,” he added. Abbaszade also noted that together with the State Statistics Committee, a new index of “active aging among the elderly” will be developed and calculated.
“Today, we all need such positive examples. In the photos that you see, older people show with their energy that age is just numbers. The importance of the photo exhibition is that it will take place in the open air on Seaside Boulevard. This will help raise people’s awareness of our project and will motivate older people to actively participate in public life,” said Farid Babayev, head of Azerbaijan Country Office in the United Nations Population Fund.
Farid Mammadov, chairman of the Board of the DOST (Agency for Sustainable and Operational Social Security), spoke about measures to strengthen the social protection of the elderly in Azerbaijan. He noted that the “Active Ageing” project supports older people in their desire to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as government measures for the social protection of older people.
The open-air photo exhibition on Seaside Boulevard will last for the next two days.
