The World Bank is working on the gender gap in the labor market within the Azerbaijan Rapid Technical Assistance Facility (AZTAF) program, Country Manager for World Bank in Azerbaijan Sarah Michael told Report.
“We work with AZTAF on encouraging women to consider working in some men-dominated sectors. Men-dominated sectors are highly paid, so we can see a gender gap. There are a lot of things that we are working on.
It is necessary to get more young women interested in these fields and make it possible for public awareness communication in the universities and even high schools so girls don’t feel that they don’t belong to this, to make it more acceptable and encourage, so that girls engage in the science of technology, or engineering, mathematics,” she noted.
Supporting communications with industry and structuring their work to attract more talented women can also help, Michael says.
