The embassies of France and Germany have announced the winner of the annual competition for the best project on gender equality in Azerbaijan. It was the project of Sabina Najafova, who created Menarki, the information platform for teenage girls and their parents, Report informs.
The winner received financial support for the development of her project, and four more participants, whose projects were shortlisted after the first round, received a statuette as a token of encouragement for their important work for society.
In her speech, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Bouillon noted that the government is doing a lot to support gender equality and create equal opportunities for women in society and in their careers, but society should also take part in this. Such local initiatives, especially in the districts of Azerbaijan, are examples of such public activity.
She also noted that issues of gender equality and the creation of equal conditions with men hold an important place in the foreign policy of France and Germany.
According to German Ambassador Ralf Horlemann, women in his country face gender-based inequalities and challenges, just like in many other countries around the world. Therefore, this issue is on the agenda for and requires attention.
Both ambassadors emphasized that they are happy to present this prize for the third time, especially in the year when the 60th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty of Friendship between France and Germany is celebrated.
