France's policy towards Muslims since colonial times shows that Paris is not fighting against individual Muslims living in this country, but in general, against the ideas of Islam and the entire Muslim world, Associate Professor of the School of Media, Communication and Sociology of the University of Leicester (UK) Idil Osman told Report.
According to her, France, as a colonial power, suppressed religious traditions, and the culture of the indigenous peoples of North Africa.
"There was a systematic destruction of the cultures and religions that existed there, mainly Islam. Since then, the 'demonization' of this religion has begun," she said.
Osman stressed that although not so many Muslims live in France, the country's government decided to introduce a law banning the wearing of the hijab and burqa.
"It shows that France is a threat to our [Muslim] way of life," she said, adding that many Muslims move to the UK because of this discrimination.
