The second round of presidential elections in Türkiye has begun. The incumbent president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu are vying to become the next Turkish president, Report informs.

Polling stations opened at 08:00 (GMT +3) and will close at 17:00. In total, 191,884 ballot boxes have been installed in the country and abroad.

Erdogan traditionally votes at the polling station in the Uskudar district of Istanbul. Kilicdaroglu will cast his vote at the polling station in the Çankaya district of Ankara.

The first results of the elections will be known a few hours after the closing of polling stations.

The CEC of Türkiye previously reported that the preliminary official results of the runoff election will be announced on May 29, and the final results will be published by the state newspaper on June 1.

Within three days after this date, the new president of Türkiye will take an oath in parliament and form a government. Most of the representatives of the former Cabinet were elected as MPs and will continue to work in the parliament.

According to the results of the vote count in the first round of the presidential elections in Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 49.51% of the vote, Kemal Kilicdaroglu - 44.88%, Sinan Ogan - 5.17%, Muharrem Ince - 0.43%.
