Türkiye shares Azerbaijan's concerns over the ongoing landmine problem, particularly in liberated territories where vast areas remain contaminated, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, according to Report.
"We share the deep concerns regarding the landmine threat in countries like Afghanistan, where the issue has persisted for decades, as well as in Azerbaijan, where unexploded ordnance continues to pose a serious danger," the ministry's statement read.
On April 4, the United Nations General Assembly marks the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, aiming to shed light on the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnance worldwide.
Türkiye plays an active role in both global and regional efforts to combat landmine threats, supporting the Ottawa Convention, which bans anti-personnel mines and promotes their destruction. Through its National Mine Action Center, Ankara remains committed to international cooperation in mine clearance.
"Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to endanger lives, hinder socio-economic development, and threaten cultural heritage in many countries. Türkiye will persist in its support for demining efforts—on land, at sea, and on international platforms," the ministry emphasized.
