Türkiye set to tighten airport security with stricter baggage screening procedures

Türkiye may introduce more stringent rules and procedures for personal baggage screening at its airports.

Report informs via Hurriyet that the new bill aligning airport security and inspection practices with the provisions of the Chicago Convention and the International Civil Aviation Agreement will be discussed at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye following the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Under the proposed law, manual inspection of passengers and their personal belongings will become mandatory at both the terminal entrance and the boarding gate. This applies to personal luggage as well as electronic devices. Passengers who refuse to undergo the screening process will be denied entry to the airport or the departure area.

The responsibility for conducting these checks will fall on private security personnel, operating under the supervision of the police. Similar regulations will also be implemented for all other types of cargo.

These changes not only aim to bring Türkiye's airport security measures in line with international standards but also serve to bolster internal security.
