Turkish MP: Central Asian countries should follow Azerbaijan's example in supporting Northern Cyprus

Statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding support for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are an example for the Turkic countries of Central Asia, Turkish Grand National Assembly Member and Deputy Chairman of the IYI Party, Ayuce Turkes Tas, told Report.

The MP also called the sincere meeting of the presidents of the two countries at the 6th Antalya Diplomatic Forum a good example for the Turkic world.

At the same time, she expressed regret that three members of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan - and an observer in the OTS - Turkmenistan - have appointed ambassadors to the Republic of Cyprus:

"All our brotherly countries are independent, sovereign states and can pursue policies in accordance with their interests. However, the fact that these states are opening embassies in Southern Cyprus (the Greek part of the island), which considers the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus an occupier, is a worrying situation. This should be analyzed in parallel with other developments in the region, including the events in Syria, and considered as a whole."
