Turkish minister: Development of our transport corridors with Azerbaijan and Georgia to strengthen cooperation

"As a result of the negotiations between Turkiye, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, our countries will gain. Development of our transport corridors with Azerbaijan and Georgia will strengthen cooperation on both the social and economic levels," the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkiye, Adil Karaismailoglu, said after the tripartite ministerial meeting of Turkiye-Azerbaijan-Georgia held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, Report informs.

According to the minister, Turkiye, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are friendly and brotherly countries. Negotiations are ongoing for the further development of transport corridors between the countries.

Karaismailoglu said that during the Tbilisi meeting, they discussed cooperation issues in the field of transport with Georgia's Deputy Prime Minister, Economy and Sustainable Development Minister, Levan Davitashvili, and Azerbaijan's Digital Development and Transport Minister, Rashad Nabiyev.

Touching on the cooperation in the field of transport between Turkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, the minister emphasized the importance of the Middle Corridor. Karaismailoglu reminded that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway (BTK) and the Marmaray line projects were implemented in Turkiye.

"Our non-stop trains from China to London have already started operating. After that, we are discussing what can be done to increase the potential further," the minister said.

Karaismailoglu emphasized that the transport infrastructures of the region's countries should be further developed due to certain problems in transportation in the northern corridor in winter and the difficulties in transportation caused by the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to him, the officials of the three countries were not satisfied only with cargo transportation but also assessed the possibilities of passenger transportation.

Adil Karaismailoglu said that they would continue similar negotiations in the future to get more income in the field of transport for the countries.
