Turkish court sentences Istanbul mayor to jail

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months in prison for insulting Turkiye's Supreme Election Board (YSK) officials, according to a court ruling announced on Wednesday, Report informs via Daily Sabah.
Imamoglu has the right to appeal against the verdict.
The decision will enter into force after the approval of the higher courts.
