Turkey's tourism industry revenue reached $24 billion, Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, Report informs citing Anadolu.
In 2022, it is planned to increase this figure to $34.5 billion, that is, a record level of 2019, he said. At the height of the pandemic - in 2020 - Turkey's tourism revenues totaled $12 billion.
The minister noted that next year the ministry plans to continue the course for the development of the tourism sector.
"New strains of coronavirus are emerging, but Turkey is excellently coping with the sanitary and epidemiological situation. Of course, our efforts alone are insufficient, it is necessary that the countries from where the holidaymakers come also carry out an effective fight against the spread of infection. This is necessary, first of all, to restore air traffic,” Ersoy said.
The minister believes that closer to May, everything will settle down, and the recovery outlined in 2021 in the tourism sector will pick up new momentum.
