Thousands of cars and trucks stuck at Belarus-EU border crossings

More than 3,000 vehicles, including 540 cars and 2,500 trucks, are currently stuck in long queues at border crossings between Belarus and neighboring European Union countries, according to recent data from the Belarusian Border Committee.

Report informs that as of Monday morning, significant buildups of passenger vehicles were reported at two main checkpoints: Kamenni Loh and Beniakoni on the Lithuanian border, and Brest on the Polish frontier.

Kamenni Loh had 50 cars waiting, while Beniakoni had 40. At the Brest crossing into Poland, 450 cars and 75 buses were lined up.

The situation is even more severe for freight traffic, with the Lithuanian direction being the most congested. Kamenni Loh and Beniakoni had 820 and 840 trucks queued up respectively. The Grigorovshchina checkpoint on the Latvian border reported over 540 trucks waiting, while Kozlovichi on the Polish border had 300.

In response to the border crisis, Lithuanian authorities have decided to close two additional crossing points - Lavorishkes and Raigardas (Kotlovka and Privalka on the Belarusian side) - starting from March 1.
