Speaker of Armenian parliament responds to head of Russian Federation Council

Yerevan has never questioned the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Armenian Parliament’s Speaker Alen Simonyan said at a briefing, commenting on the statement by the head of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, who voiced a request to the National Assembly of Armenia to clarify the position of MPs regarding “Speaker Alen Simonyan’s accusations against Russia,” Report informs.

Simonyan noted that in his speech at the summit of heads of EU parliaments in Spain, he did not use the definition of “illegal,” speaking only about the “invasion” of Ukraine, and stated that Armenia recognizes the territorial integrity of Ukraine and other countries. In the sense of international law, Armenia also recognizes the territorial integrity of Russia, he added.

“Did I say something new in this sense? The official position of Armenia has never been different. At the same time, I did not use the wording ‘illegal’ so as not to play on human emotions,” Simonyan emphasized.
