Social Democratic Party of Germany: Kyiv to receive 80 Leopard tanks from different countries

Ukraine will soon receive 80 Leopard 2 tanks from different countries, Report informs referring to the press service of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which is part of the ruling coalition.

“In close coordination with other heads of state and government, our Federal Chancellor has formed an alliance to take further necessary and responsible steps. Two battalions (about 80 main battle tanks in total) of Leopard 2A6 are expected to be delivered as soon as possible,” the party tweeted.

Germany will directly transfer 14 tanks to Ukraine.

The supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine was discussed for several weeks. On January 25, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the delivery of 14 tanks of this type to Ukraine. On the same day, France, Norway and Slovakia, Portugal and others announced the delivery of heavy equipment. Also, US President Joe Biden announced the delivery of 31 Abrams tanks and 8 M88 armored recovery vehicles for their maintenance.
