Slutsky: Karabakh will become one of the most prosperous territories outside post-Soviet space

"I want to call on everyone to remember the great Heydar Aliyevich, who hears us and is proud of the successes of his son, people and country," head of the Russian State Duma's international affairs committee Leonid Slutsky said, as quoted by Report's Russian bureau.

He noted that thanks to Ilham Aliyev's policy, Azerbaijan today has a prosperous economy: "He did not leave the bleeding problem of Karabakh to his children and grandchildren, which will become one of the most prosperous territories outside the entire post-Soviet space in the field of science and technology. Now there are simpler and more urgent issues that started to be successfully resolved."

According to Slutsky, Azerbaijan once again demonstrated to the world community that it could solve the most challenging and non-standard tasks: "After Heydar Aliyevich, Azerbaijan has implemented many significant projects: the European Olympic Games, the Baku Humanitarian Forum, and much more. Scientific and higher educational institutions are flourishing, along with medicine and culture. Centuries will pass, but those who will lead Azerbaijan will be proud that Azerbaijan is their Motherland."

"Today, Russia and Azerbaijan are linked by close ties of cooperation in many areas. There is no more reliable partner than Azerbaijan for Russia. And not only in the post-Soviet space. I am proud and happy that I am a friend of the President of Azerbaijan. We had solved many very interesting problems together, including from the platform of the Council of Europe when Ilham Heydarovich headed the delegation of the Milli Majlis, they proved to many people that the distortion of facts regarding Azerbaijan and Russia has nothing to do with the desperate thoughts of the people and the realities that are taking place in this country," Slutsky stressed.
