Scholz: EC to assess Ukraine’s request to join EU by end-June

By the end of June, the European Commission will assess Ukraine’s request to join the EU, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, Report informs referring to Ukrainian media.

“Ukraine has requested membership in the European Union. The Commission before the European Council, presumably at the end of June, will give its assessment of the request,” he said in the Bundestag on May 19.

Scholz quoted French President Emmanuel Macron as saying that the process of joining the union is not a matter of months or years, but promised Ukraine support in the process.
