Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow favors turning South Caucasus into region of peace and prosperity

Russia favors turning the South Caucasus into a region of peace and prosperity. In its regional work, it promotes an exclusively constructive agenda and is not going to compete with anyone, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Ivan Nechaev said at a weekly briefing, Report informs.

The diplomat spoke on what principles the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be based on.

"As for the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, as we have repeatedly noted, appropriate efforts should be made on the basis of the tripartite statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia dated November 9, 2020, and January 11 and November 26, 2021," he said.

Nechaev also noted that Russia has no objection to the involvement of non-regional players, if they act in line with the mentioned agreements and contribute to their implementation. At the same time, he stressed that the main thing is to prevent duplication and "undercover games in order to weaken someone, to put a spoke in the wheel," since the Russian side had to deal with such a practice committed by the mentioned actors more than once.
