Russian expert: US, France main sources of destabilization in South Caucasus

The US and France are the main sources of destabilization in the South Caucasus today, Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies Igor Korotchenko told journalists, Report informs.

"Today, it is the US, as well as France, that are the main sources of destabilization in the South Caucasus. This means that the revanchist forces in Armenia may try to disrupt the peace process by committing a large-scale military provocation," Korotchenko said.

He noted that Armenia receives offensive weapons, including the announced deliveries of long-range missile systems.

"Of course, the fact that the heads of the largest Western intelligence agencies and intelligence services come to Yerevan as if they were in their own home, and are received by both Pashinyan and Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan. All this suggests that Armenia has lost its subjectivity," he added.

Korotchenko believes that today Armenia is the West's "Trojan horse" in the South Caucasus.

He emphasized that the goal and objective of NATO and the US is to create a source and a springboard for instability in Armenia. In particular, the US is pumping Armenia with weapons today, and it is obvious that they are thus preparing large-scale provocations, he added.

According to the Russian expert, only through the joint efforts of all the countries of the South Caucasus can these negative trends be countered. Korotchenko, commenting on the prospects for unblocking communications in the South Caucasus, said that the trilateral statement of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia states that the Border Service of the FSB of Russia should exercise control over the movement and traffic of transport.

In his opinion, Western countries are seeking to destabilize the South Caucasus by using Armenia as a battering ram to disrupt stability and disrupt the implementation of transport projects, in particular, the North-South corridor.
