Russian expert says West attempts to meddle in South Caucasus via Armenia

The geopolitical strategy of the United States and Europe in the South Caucasus is aimed at establishing complete dependence of the region's countries on their influence, according to Russian political scientist Sergey Markov.

According to Report, Markov pointed out that the history of Western countries is replete with examples of colonial practices that led to the deaths of millions of people in various parts of the world.

"For these countries, large-scale human casualties do not essentially pose a significant problem. They view everything from the perspective of their hegemony. It doesn't matter to them whether there is peace or war. What matters is that this peace or war is under their leadership," the expert said.

The political scientist emphasized that one should not trust the desire of Western countries to establish peace in the South Caucasus region. They are not against peace, but only under their leadership, he said. Such a peace agreement would include provisions that would allow them to manipulate these countries.

Moreover, he added that the West is trying to interfere in the affairs of the South Caucasus through Armenia.

"They impose themselves as a negotiating platform, suggesting to conclude a peace agreement, but under their guidance," he said.

According to Markov, the best course of action for the Armenian people and the country's leadership is to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan as soon as possible.

"The opening of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia will attract huge investments, give people the opportunity to travel freely, and allow those forced to flee from Western Azerbaijan to return to their native places," he noted.
