Russian envoy: Those who spread anti-Russian statements in Armenia must give explanations

The authors of contradictory statements regarding Armenian-Russian relations must provide explanations so that everyone can understand, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said, Report informs.

Speaking about the anti-Russian rhetoric in Armenia that has received new impetus in recent months, the ambassador expressed bewilderment that people who accuse Russia of pursuing selfish goals and anti-Armenian conspiracies do not see a logical contradiction between their words and what is actually happening. It’s enough to look at how economic ties between the two countries are developing - Russian-Armenian trade turnover last year amounted to $5 billion, and this year it is growing at an even faster pace.

“For Russia, the South Caucasus is part of our big home, because really a lot depends on it, and this is a vitally important region. It is clear that Russia has its own interests, and it will realize them, carry them out, but I am absolutely convinced that one of the most important, key interests of the Russian Federation is that the region is calm, that there is no military escalation here, and that conditions are truly created here so that the region can live stably and economically fruitfully,” Kopyrkin concluded.
