Russia warns US against attempts to gain foothold in CIS space

Attempts by the US and its allies to gain a foothold in the CIS space militarily are fraught with serious risks, and this is unacceptable for Moscow, Director of the First Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Yevdokimov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, Report informs.

“In the current situation, the mechanisms of interstate cooperation in the field of security and protection of external borders formed within the CIS are of particular importance. For obvious reasons, this area of ​​cooperation is the least public, but its importance is steadily increasing,” the diplomat said.

“This trend has become especially noticeable against the background of cardinal changes in Afghanistan, which have a significant impact on the situation in the Central Asian region, as well as in the light of the ongoing attempts by the US and its allies to impose their practices and standards, to gain a foothold in the CIS region militarily, which is fraught with serious risks and would be unacceptable for Russia,” he stressed.
