Russia, Türkiye developing Rebit kart payment system for Russian tourists

Russia and Türkiye are working on a payment system whose cards Russian tourists can use in the republic, according to the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, Report informs referring to TASS.

According to the publication, the payment system will be called Rebit kart. Russian tourists will allegedly be able to easily use the cards of this system in Türkiye using an application on their mobile devices.

In mid-September last year, all Turkish banks suspended servicing Mir cards after the US Treasury announced its intention to impose sanctions for supporting Russia’s attempts to expand the use of its payment system abroad. Mir cards were accepted by five banks in Türkiye: private Is Bankasi, Denizbank and state-owned Ziraat Bankasi, VakifBank and Halkbank.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan instructed the relevant ministries of Türkiye to work out alternatives to using the Mir system.
