Russia's single-day coronavirus tally tops 40,000

Russia has reported a new high in coronavirus cases, with 40,096 people contracting the pathogen over the past day, taking the overall tally to 8,392,697 since the pandemic onset.

Report informs, citing RIA Novosti, that according to the operational headquarters, the country recorded a new maximum of deaths per day, with 1,159 succumbing to coronavirus, bringing the overall death toll to 235,057 throughout the pandemic. Meanwhile, 29,318 people have beaten the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,272,053 nationwide.
