Putin offers introducing status of coordinating state in CSTO during UN operations

Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted to the State Duma for ratification a protocol on amending the CSTO peacekeeping agreement, which provides for the introduction of the concept of “coordinating state,” under whose auspices peacekeeping forces will be formed to participate in operations under the auspices of the UN, Report informs referring to TASS.

“The protocol introduces the concept of a ‘coordinating state’ and provides that under its auspices a collective peacekeeping force (CPF) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is created to be used in a UN peacekeeping operation,” the explanatory note says.

“The conditions for the participation of the CPF in a UN peacekeeping operation are determined in an agreement concluded by the coordinating state with an authorized UN unit,” the document states.

The protocol was signed on September 16, 2021, in Dushanbe. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin was appointed as the official representative during the consideration of the document by the parliament.
