Protest rally held in Georgia demanding EU doctors' access to Saakashvili

A protest action was held at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia demanding that the EU medical mission be allowed to see former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is in custody under the supervision of doctors in a clinic, Report informs via Sputnik-Georgia.

Earlier, Saakashvili himself demanded that the EU medical mission be allowed to visit him so that they could assess his condition.

Since his arrest on October 1, 2021, Saakashvili spent a total of less than six months in a prison cell, the rest of the time he was in clinics - first in a prison clinic, then in a military hospital, and since May 2022 - in the Vivamedi clinic.

Saakashvili's lawyers tried to get him released through the courts for health reasons. They even invited American experts who stated at the trial that Saakashvili was poisoned with heavy metals and that he was dying. But the Georgian courts considered the arguments of the Special Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia more convincing and refused to release the ex-president.
