The Armenian prosecutor's office demands to confiscate about 2 billion drams (about $5 million), as well as houses in Armenia and the United States, from Artur Gevorgyan (ex-member of parliament, son-in-law of ex-police chief Vladimir Gasparyan), Report informs via Sputnik-Armenia.
The Anti-Corruption Court accepted the suit of the prosecutor's office on June 5.
The prosecutor's office, in particular, demands to seize from Gevorgyan and persons related to him two units of real estate in Armenia and the United States, and 1 car. The value of this property is estimated at 409 million drams (slightly more than $1 million).
As for the indicated 2 billion drams, 1.057 billion of them, according to the materials of the case, are illegal funds, and another 925 million are illegal funds for which Gevorkyan bought a property from bona fide sellers (who did not know about the illegal origin of the money). Another 56 million (about $140,000) is the outstanding debt, which Gevorgyan transferred to an individual, but did not manage to receive back.
Gevorgyan is the nephew of Ruben Gevorgyan, the head of the Davidashen municipality of Yerevan in 1996-1999, and later a member of parliament (from the Prosperous Armenia party). In 2012-18, he was elected as a deputy from the Republican Party of Armenia.
