Pound weakens against dollar ahead of UK inflation data

The British pound slipped against the US dollar on Wednesday morning ahead of the release of the UK’s latest inflation figures.

According to Report, trading data showed sterling falling to $1.3473, down from the previous close of $1.3491.

The euro also eased against the dollar, dropping to $1.1633 from $1.1647, while the dollar edged higher against the yen, trading at ¥147.55 compared with ¥147.67 at the prior close.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index — which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies — rose 0.09% to 98.37 points.

Later on Wednesday, the UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) is set to release inflation data. Analysts expect annual inflation to have accelerated to 3.7% in July, up from 3.6% in June.
