Population of Russia drops by more than half a million

More than 146 million people permanently reside in Russia as of January 1, 2023, the Russian statistical agency Rosstat said on Wednesday, Report informs.
The population, as of January 1, 2023, stood at 146,424,729, including 109,634,815 urban residents and 36,789,914 people living in rural areas.
The population of the annexed Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions was not taken into account in the report.
The methodology of the Statistics Committee states that the population is calculated based on the last census results.
