PM: Georgia has no alternative but to join the EU

Georgia has no alternative but to join the European Union, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said during a panel discussion at the Davos Economic Forum, Report informs.

Garibashvili noted that Georgia is a very reliable and loyal partner of the EU.

"Membership in the European Union is a choice not only of the Georgian Government, but also of the Georgian people. We share the same values ​​and principles with Europe," he said.

The prime minister recalled the association agreement with the EU dated 2014:

"This is a crucial document and our ultimate goal is a roadmap for us to become a full member of the Union. Georgia's agreements with the European Union on free trade and a visa-free regime are also important results."

Garibashvili stressed that Georgia has recently submitted a questionnaire on EU membership.

"Every step that brings Georgia closer to EU membership is acceptable to us. We will do our best to get closer to the EU," he added.
