Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said the highest mountain in the country is Aragats, not Ararat (Agry Dag).
Report informs citing Novosti-Armenia that Pashinyan made the statement during a press conference.
Pashinyan said that at his meetings with schoolchildren, when asked “What is the highest mountain in Armenia?” half of the children say Ararat: “Speaking of Ararat and Aragats, I’m talking about territories that are or are not the sovereign territory of Armenia. Aragats is located in Armenia, Mount Ararat is not. We have a well-defined border with Türkiye. Is it good or bad? Of course, it's good," he said.
He suggested looking at the situation from Türkiye's side. "Ararat is located on the internationally recognized territory of Türkiye. How do children in Armenia find out about this (that the highest mountain in Armenia is Ararat)? In schools, which means as a result of the educational policy of the government."
“If children call Ararat, and not Aragats the highest mountain of Armenia, does this mean that Armenia has territorial claims against Türkiye?” he said, noting that if there are claims, then why should Türkiye assist or even ignore the development of Armenia?
"On the contrary, they must do everything to destroy us. And now I ask the question: what is the highest mountain in Armenia? The answer is Aragats," he said.
The prime minister stressed that this is precisely the policy that will give Armenia the opportunity to develop, and everything else will drag the country into a historical cycle, the end of which will lead to the loss of the state.
